I recently took a Service Learning 101 course. There are a lot of natural and authentic links between what I learnt there and the Roots & Shoots after school activity that I have been working on for over a year now. I was searching for a video that might explain the 4 types of service (Direct, Indirect, Advocacy, and Research better to our younger ones. This was the closest I could find to what I had imagined! The video took me to the Learning to Give website that had succinct explanations of the different types. Using some of the text from the page, I created a more visual representation (below) to use with my younger students. I’m also planning to share this with the Grade 5 team who are currently guiding their students through the PYP Exhibition.
