Stretching and Playing

I have come to realise that I have an innate thirst for learning. I just cannot stop. I’ve just completed my final paper for my Master’s. I’ve just been accepted into the Apple Distinguished Educator program (still smiling about that!). So you would think that it would be a great chance to stop for a while, take a break and rest my brain. But no! The thing is, I enjoy a challenge. I like to be stretched. I LOVE to learn. So yes, I’m not working quite so hard now in the evenings, but I am seeking out learning opportunities. Most importantly, learning opportunities that I know I will ENJOY!
I have always been a visual learner. I love looking at visuals. I love making visuals. While I don’t have the raw artist talent, I feel like I have a good eye for things. I love creating beautiful classroom displays. I love playing with art tools. Recently I have been seeing a lot of ‘sketch notes’. Visual note-taking. It just helps me to remember things better.
I love the RSA Animate series, including videos like this one:
I admire educators, like @irantimega, who create beautifully aesthetic visuals of conversations. Stunning work.
For some reason over the last couple of days, I kept coming across sketchnotes on Twitter by @sylviaduckworth. Here is one great example:

I took that as a sign. I was inspired. So I decided to start creating my OWN sketchnotes. First stop, @sylviaduckworth’s invaluable resource, Sketchnoting for Beginners. I downloaded the Flipink app and started to play. I LOVE playing! Here is my very first sketchnote:

Looking forward to practicing, creating and more sketchnoting. Live and LEARN!
